All cats look the same in that they all have feline features whether it’s a domestic cat or a wild cat. But just as how we people have the same physical structure but can look unique considering one’s nationality, fashion and facial features, cats’ looks also have a variety and exclusivity depending on their breed. Here, we highlight six cat breeds with unique physical traits they’re known for.
We start off with the most distinguishable cat breed bearing a remarkable difference from others: Sphynx cats. Sphynx are well-known for being hairless. They don’t have the fluffy fur that other cats have but instead have very fine hairs or none at all. Supposedly, their body has a “soft chamois leather or suede” feel to it.
Known for resembling owls; Scottish Fold cats are among the cat breeds with unique physical traits exclusive to their own. They have folded ears and large, round eyes which make them look like owls with fur and paws instead of feather and wings.
Similar to Scottish Fold cats, American Curls also have a distinct ear trademark. But while Scottish Fold cats have floppy-looking ears, American Curls’ have curly-looking ears. This unique physical trait doesn’t happen at birth though as this cat breed has straight ears when born but begin to curl shortly after.
Munchkin cats are known for their small size or short-leggedness. Their adorable stature with their unusually stumpy legs are found to be a result of natural genetic mutation. The Munchkin cat breed is still a newcomer to the official list of cat breeds. Moreover, this feline breed continues to be a subject of controversy as debate ensues regarding breeding these cats with dwarfism.
Another of the cat breeds with unique physical traits are Manx cats. They’re known as the cats with no tails which makes them fairly easy to identify. However, not all Manx cats are tailless though as some can have really short, stubby ones that look like they were cut before they could grow.
Dubbed as “a cat in sheep’s clothing,” Selkirk Rex felines are known for their distinct soft curly fluffy coats. Unlike other Rex cat breeds, this cat breed is more distinct because their curly fur is a lot more eye-catching with its thickness and length. Other nicknames for Selkirk Rex cats are “poodle cats” or “teddy bear,” the latter being quite common for adorable cat breeds.
