Man Turns His House Into Indoor Cat Playground and Our Hearts Explode For the Love of Cats!
When Peter Cohen, Manuel Flores and Hiroyuki Furumoto purchased a house, they never expected that it would end up going to the cats. After nearly thirty years, they now feel as though “This is their house and (we’re) just living here with them.” So what makes the cats feel so at home? You won’t believe it until you see it.
A Slippery Slope
When they moved in, the house came with two stray cats living on the property. Both were hit by cars, and sadly, one did not survive. The other recovered as an indoor pet cat after receiving veterinary care, and lots of TLC. Even with three human companions, though, the cat needed a feline friend. They took to the local animal shelter adopt a second cat, which soon became two, and so on.

Though, in the beginning, they weren’t all sure they wanted to keep so many cats, they certainly had a soft spot for them, and now can’t imagine life without them. Years later, their cat colony has blossomed to a flourishing fifteen! But what’s more amazing, still, is the incredible cat-scape they have constructed for their rescued room-mates.
Fit for a King
It’s no secret that cats love to jump up high onto shelves, cupboards, mantles, desks, and anything where you keep your most fragile treasures. They have an innate need to climb, balance, scratch, play and hide in enclosed spaces. With this in mind, the house has been remodelled for a modest $50,000 or so. It includes catwalks, stair cases, scratching posts, spiral climbers, hidey holes, platforms and tunnels. There is even a koi pond, which might seem like a bad idea at first, but apparently the cats just enjoy watching them. It may be safe to assume they are all very well fed, and have no need for fresh sushi.
Clearly, the cats appreciate the efforts. The men’s reward for all the time, love and effort that has gone into this incredible design? Its seeing the cats chase and play on their structures, and come over for cuddles and pats after a long day. It’s a real cat paradise. To see for yourself, watch the video here.
